What I do...

I'm currently accepting assignments to illustrate picture books, covers, and education materials for children and youth.

As a published writer and an experienced teacher, I'm also taking on commissions for Picture Books, YA and Teen Fiction, as well as educational materials for pre K-12.

My semi-realistic style is consistent with watercolour, acrylic, pastel and mixed media.

My passion is to find the essential gestures that show a character's personality and mood.

My favourite subjects to illustrate are those where there is a strong emotional link between characters.

Books

My first children's book, Bonjour Minuit, deals with separation and loss. I wrote and illustrated it in French for the YA market.

My first novel, Fadimatu straddles the adult and teen genres and has been taught from middle grades and up. It is on the reading list of international African Studies classes and English Literature at the college level.

My collection of short stories, Sleeping with the Insane, straddles the Teen and Adult genres.

My active professional memberships include SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) a fantastic organization for all aspiring and old-timer writers and illustrators. SCBWI gave me an award at the Los Angeles Annual General Meeting for my illustration portfolio in the category of "Realistic Children."

CWILL BC is a British Columbia group of writers and illustrators group that is growing all the time; CANSCAIP, Canadian Association of Children's Authors, Illustrators, and Performers is a Canada wide group with much valuable information.

Another of my favourite organizations is the Federation of Canadian Artists.

The FCA has twice given my juried paintings LINK THIS the Award of Excellence.

I come from a background of writing and painting; my books and paintings are sold and exhibited in Canada, Australia, the US and Africa.

Teaching, Workshops, School Visits

Using my illustration, writing and teaching background, I am able to offer engaging and entertaining school presentations and workshops. I'm also happy to teach short sessions and on-line sessions in Creative Writing and Illustration for children, youth, and college students.

From time to time I am able to take on new local and on-line students in illustration, drawing and painting.
